TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nintendo has officially launched the Switch 2 globally this week. The latest generation of the company's game console was released on June 5, 2025, following months of leaks, formal announcements, and a pre-order phase marked by strong consumer enthusiasm.
The Switch 2 is available in two versions. The standard edition includes only the handheld console and is priced at US$ 449.99 (over Rp7.3 million in the US). The bundle edition, priced at US$ 499.99 (more than Rp8.1 million), includes a digital copy of Mario Kart World. Accessories such as controllers and other peripherals are sold separately.
According to a report from GSM Arena, the Switch 2 brings several major upgrades compared to its predecessor. It is powered by a custom NVIDIA chip and offers 256 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2 TB via a microSD Express card.
The console features a 7.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution, HDR10 support, and a variable refresh rate (VRR) of up to 120 Hz. It houses a 5,220 mAh battery, which is claimed to last between 2.0 to 6.5 hours depending on usage, and takes approximately 3.0 hours to fully charge in Sleep mode.
The product launch also includes a range of new accessories, such as the updated Pro Controller, a dedicated Switch 2 camera, and an official carrying case.
Several popular games are available at launch, including enhanced versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, as well as the new racing title Mario Kart World. A new GameChat feature, which functions similarly to Discord, is also included to enhance player communication.
As anticipated, the Switch 2 faced limited availability on its release day. Major retailers such as Walmart, GameStop, and BJ's Wholesale Club reportedly sold out of online stock shortly after launch. According to The Verge on Saturday, June 7, 2025, these retailers had no online units remaining.
Target is expected to open online pre-orders on June 6, and some physical store availability is still possible. Costco members are also able to purchase a special bundle that includes a 12-month Switch Online subscription card.
Nintendo has not yet shared details regarding future stock availability. Despite the company’s efforts to build up inventory ahead of the launch, strong consumer demand led to rapid sell-outs on day one.
As a result, the Switch 2 is quickly becoming one of the most in-demand gaming consoles of the year.
