TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Geological Agency, part of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), reported that a lahar flow from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki impacted Klatanlo and Dulipali villages in the Wulanggitang Sub-district of East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
"The lahar flow was initially recorded at 05:17 WITA (Central Indonesian Time) and reached a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm at 05:51 WITA. The event recording concluded at 06:36 WITA," stated Lana Saria, the Acting Head of the Geological Agency, in a statement released on Wednesday.
Lana noted that during visual monitoring, the mountain was covered in fog, preventing observations of the crater smoke, although the loud roar of the lahar flow was distinctly audible. "The roar was heard up to a 3-kilometer radius," she said.
Impact and Current Status
The lahar flow resulted in road blockage and structural damage to homes. "The immediate consequences observed in the area included the obstruction of the Maumere-Larantuka road due to mud and lahar material, three homes in Dulipali Village sustaining considerable damage, and one house in Klatanlo Village being submerged under 40 centimeters of mud. This event also triggered a power failure due to the collapse of several electrical poles in Dulipali Village," she reported.
The Geological Agency is currently maintaining the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki at Level IV (Alert).
Given the alert status, the Geological Agency issued specific recommendations to the public. Approaching the mountain is prohibited within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center, and specifically within a 7-kilometer radius in the northwest-northeast direction.
Residents in disaster-prone areas must be cautious of potential lahar floods during heavy rain. This is especially true for communities along river flows originating from the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, including Nawakote, Dulipali, Nobo, Hokeng Jaya, and Nurabelen.
Residents affected by ashfall are advised to use masks or nose and mouth coverings to protect their respiratory systems.
