TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid met with representatives of Roblox Asia Pacific at her office today, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, discussing the issue of child protection in online gaming, which has recently garnered attention in Indonesia.
Meutya requested developers to improve the system, such as by implementing restrictions on user communication, especially for children. Additionally, Roblox is also asked to filter age-inappropriate content and clarify parental control features.
"These improvements ensure that Indonesian children are protected from potentially harmful content and interactions in the digital space," Meutya said in a written statement.
The Golkar Party cadre reminded that since 2022, Roblox has been registered as an Electronic System Provider (PSE) and plays a role in building a safe, productive, and beneficial internet ecosystem. This game is expected to set an example as a platform that prioritizes the safety of young users, thereby ensuring that the digital space in Indonesia remains safe for children to play, learn, and create.
According to Meutya, Roblox is not yet banned in Indonesia, as the ministry is giving the developers time to improve the system to comply with regulations in Indonesia. "It would be great if within 1-2 months, Roblox makes comprehensive improvements to its services in Indonesia," she said.
Previously, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that Roblox is harmful due to its prevalence of violence. He believes that children are not yet capable of distinguishing between reality and fiction in the digital space.
He also mentioned that the game makes children lazy and more emotional. Despite that, he acknowledged that parents also play an essential role in supervising their children's play activities.
