TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Maluku Police have stepped up security preparations ahead of President Prabowo Subianto's visit to the Tanimbar Islands on July 16, where he is scheduled to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Masela Block National Strategic Project (PSN).
Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto said the project marks a strategic milestone for Indonesia's energy sector and is expected to boost investor confidence.
"The groundbreaking of the Masela Block is not merely a state agenda, but a strategic momentum to strengthen national energy security and increase investor confidence in Indonesia," Dadang said, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
He added that authorities have taken measures to ensure all security aspects of the presidential visit are fully prepared and that potential risks can be anticipated in advance.
On Tuesday, Dadang, accompanied by Commander of the XV/Pattimura Regional Military Command Major General Dodi Triwinarto and members of Maluku's Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), inspected the project site at PT INPEX Masela Ltd.'s shelter site in Lermatang Village, South Tanimbar District.
The inspection was carried out as a final review of VVIP security arrangements, supporting facilities, and inter-agency coordination ahead of the president's arrival.
According to Dadang, the field assessment was intended to ensure that all decisions made during cross-sector coordination meetings had been implemented, allowing the groundbreaking ceremony to proceed safely and smoothly.
The Maluku Police have deployed a layered security system that includes early detection measures, risk mapping, and intensified coordination with the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres), local administrations, upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas, and project operator PT INPEX Masela Ltd.
All personnel involved have been instructed to carry out their duties professionally and in accordance with VVIP security protocols, he said.
"Security is the foundation of investment. When public order is maintained, development can proceed as planned, investor confidence strengthens, employment opportunities expand, and economic benefits can be felt by the community," Dadang said.
During the inspection, officials reviewed preparations at the main groundbreaking site, the VVIP stage, presidential arrival and departure routes, medical facilities, media center, evacuation routes, parking areas, and security arrangements for vital infrastructure linked to the integrated security system.
The delegation also evaluated transportation access, communication systems, healthcare services, and other supporting facilities. The findings will serve as the basis for final adjustments before the president's visit.
The Masela Block project is one of Indonesia's key natural gas development initiatives and is expected to strengthen the country's energy security, attract investment, and generate economic benefits for Maluku Province and eastern Indonesia.
The government has scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for July 16 in the Tanimbar Islands.
