TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysia is providing access to more than 65,000 free courses for all citizens of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). These courses are for skill development through the National Training Week (NTW) initiative, which will take place from June 14 to 21, 2025.
Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, Steven Sim Chee Keong, stated in a written announcement on Wednesday, May 28, as reported by Antara, that this initiative is expected to reach at least five million participants from across the region. The estimated value of this training is more than US$600 million, or about Rp9.7 trillion.
The courses will be offered both offline and online covering a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green technology, leadership, and soft skills.
This training program is made possible by contributions from leading global platforms and institutions such as Microsoft, Udemy, Awantec, Alibaba Cloud, and prominent training providers in Malaysia.
The NTW initiative complements other flagship platforms under the umbrella of the ASEAN Skills Year 2025 (AYOS). These include the ASEAN Training Market Conference in July, the ASEAN Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference in August, and the Global Skills Forum, culminating in the ASEAN Labour Ministers' Forum for Human Capital Development in October 2025.
Steven Sim emphasized that ASEAN's long-term success hinges on its ability to transition beyond traditional economic models and embrace future-oriented digital, green, and high-value industries.
He affirmed that ASEAN must no longer be just the world's shop floor but instead its innovation engine, powered by skilled talent, strong partnerships, and shared goals.
Sim further added that Malaysia warmly welcomes all ASEAN citizens to participate in this unprecedented opportunity to enhance their skills, broaden their horizons, and contribute to building a future-ready ASEAN workforce.
