List of Safest Countries if World War 3 Breaks Out

10 hours ago 5

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tension reached a boiling point after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at his residence on February 28. Following official confirmation on March 1, the situation rapidly escalated as the United States and Iran began exchanging missile strikes.

The geopolitical landscape shifted further when the United Kingdom granted the US permission to use its territory for war resources, triggering global anxiety. As the threat of a larger conflict appears, identifying the safest countries from war has become a priority for many.

List of the Safest Countries and Havens if World War 3 Breaks Out

While no place is entirely immune to the effects of the global conflicts, several nations offer better protection due to their geographical location and political neutrality. Below is a list of nations that provide the highest chance of survival and peace.

1. Antarctica

This continent covers the South Pole and sits thousands of miles away from any potential nuclear war. While the freezing and borderline uninhabitable climate requires extreme preparation, its 14 million square kilometers offer plenty of room for refugees. Being far from strategic military targets makes it one of the most secure locations to survive a global nuclear exchange.

2. Iceland

Iceland has earned a reputation as one of the most peaceful nations, consistently appearing at the top of the Global Peace Index. The country is a remote island that has never been subject to a full-scale invasion or modern war. Its sparse population and harsh climate reduce its exposure to conflict, offering a safe haven from a global military confrontation.

3. New Zealand

Currently ranked third on the Global Peace Index, New Zealand is recognized for its consistent neutrality in most conflicts. Its location in the Southern Hemisphere keeps it far from major geopolitical crises, while its rugged, mountainous terrain offers additional physical protection. Furthermore, the country’s self-sufficient agriculture ensures a steady food supply.

4. Switzerland

Known globally for its long-standing political neutrality, Switzerland is well-protected by its landlocked geography and mountainous terrain. The country features an extensive network of nuclear shelters and has historically blocked the delivery of Swiss-made weapons to conflict zones. It remains one of the few European countries unlikely to be targeted in a global war.

5. Tuvalu

Located roughly halfway between Hawaii and Australia, this Pacific island is home to a population of just 11,000 people. Its extremely remote location and limited infrastructure make it an unattractive and unlikely target for any major side. While a lack of natural resources might be an issue for residents, it further dissuades foreign military interest.

6. Greenland

As an incredibly remote territory with a minimal population of approximately 57,000 people, Greenland possesses very few strategic military targets for any attacker. Its far northern location makes it difficult for most nuclear missiles to reach, while the island’s massive ice sheet is expected to absorb and limit the impact of any potential blast.

7. Bhutan

Bhutan officially declared itself neutral in 1971 after joining the United Nations. As a landlocked nation surrounded by massive mountainous regions, it is naturally easier to defend against external threats.

8. Chile

Chile possesses a 4,000-mile coastline and mountainous terrain that acts as a natural barrier against invasion. It is rich in natural resources and agriculture, which helps sustain its population if global supply chains are shattered. The nation also boasts some of the most advanced infrastructure and development on the continent.

9. South Africa

South Africa provides fertile land, fresh water, and multiple food sources that make survival relatively viable. The country’s modern infrastructure allows for these vital resources to be managed effectively during a crisis. Its resource self-sufficiency and Southern Hemisphere position make it a strong candidate for survival.

10. Fiji

This remote island nation is situated 2,700 miles away from Australia, far from major geopolitical crises. It ranks high on the Global Peace Index and maintains a small military consisting of just 6,000 soldiers. Fiji’s thick forest and self-sustaining resources, like fishing spots and minerals, support long-term stability.
