TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Founder and longtime producer Park Jin-young will step back from his position as an internal director at JYP Entertainment.

JYP Entertainment revealed on March 10 that founder and producer Park Jin-young will not pursue reappointment as an internal director at the company’s shareholders’ meeting scheduled for March 26.

As a composer and producer, Park Jin-young established JYP Entertainment in 1997, building what would become one of K-pop’s most influential agencies. Over the decades, the company has introduced a long list of successful singers and idol groups including TWICE, Day6, Stray Kids, and NMIXX.

While leaving the board role behind, Park will remain active as founder and Chief Creative Officer, focusing on creative work, supporting rising artists, and pursuing projects tied to the broader K-pop industry.

In recent years, Park Jin-young has expanded his involvement beyond the stage and studio, taking on a more public-facing role within the broader K-pop industry.

Last September, he was appointed co-chair of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, an advisory body formed under the administration of Lee Jae-myung. The committee is tasked with shaping national strategies for pop culture policy while strengthening the global competitiveness of Korea’s cultural industries through collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The Chosun Daily shared that Park’s departure from the board at JYP Entertainment is widely viewed as a decision to dedicate more time to his work with the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange and other industry-focused initiatives.

Speaking recently during a television variety show appearance, Park Jin-young reflected on his decision to accept a public role tied to the K-pop industry. “I declined for three months but decided for the future of the K-pop industry,” he said, explaining that the opportunity involved pursuing initiatives “at the national level that cannot be done at the company level.”

Park also addressed questions about political alignment, emphasizing neutrality. “Looking at the times and other countries, balance is needed,” he said. “I have no intention of belonging to any faction. I am not part of the progressive camp or the conservative camp—I am Park Jin-young.”
