TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has launched the iPhone 16e, the latest model referred to as the most affordable in the iPhone 16 lineup. However, its presence has sparked a comparison with the iPhone 15, whose price drops and remains a competitive choice in the market.
In Indonesia, cited from the official ibox page, the iPhone 15 is priced starting from Rp11,749,000, while the iPhone 16e is sold starting from Rp12,749,000. With a price difference of around Rp1,000,000, the following is a comparison of the two devices, as cited from Gizmochina's report:
1. Design and Display
iPhone 15 and iPhone 16e use flat panel designs with glass and aluminum materials, supported by IP68 certification. However, the iPhone 15 features Dynamic Island and two rear cameras arranged diagonally, while the iPhone 16e uses a classic notch and only one rear camera.
Both use a 6.1-inch OLED display with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support. The iPhone 15 excels in screen brightness, reaching 2000 nits compared to 1200 nits on the iPhone 16e. Nevertheless, both still use the standard iPhone 60 Hz refresh rate.
2. Performance
The iPhone 16e has an A18 chip based on 3 nm transistors and 8 GB of RAM, offering efficiency and the potential for longer software support. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 uses an A16 Bionic chip (4 nm) and 6 GB of RAM. The performance difference is not significant in daily use, except for heavy applications or intensive multitasking.
3. Camera
The iPhone 15 has two rear cameras, a 48 MP main and a 12 MP ultrawide, providing more flexibility for photography. The iPhone 16e relies only on a 48 MP camera without an ultrawide lens. However, the iPhone 16e already supports 3D spatial audio recording, a new feature not available in the iPhone 15.
4. Battery and Charging
The iPhone 16e has a 4005 mAh battery, larger than the 3349 mAh on the iPhone 15. With a more efficient chip, the battery life of the iPhone 16e is estimated to be slightly better. However, the iPhone 15 supports 15W MagSafe wireless and 4.5W reverse charging. The iPhone 16e does not have MagSafe and only supports standard 7.5W wireless charging.
5. Connectivity and Additional Features
Both devices support dual eSIM usage, Face ID, USB-C, and satellite-based emergency systems. On the iPhone 16e, there is additional support for India's NavIC navigation system. Both run on iOS 18, with the possibility of the iPhone 16e receiving an additional year of software support compared to the iPhone 15.
So between the iPhone 15, with its dual camera, MagSafe feature, and brighter screen, and the iPhone 16e, with its latest chip and longer battery life, which would you choose?
