TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned on Tuesday, July 21, that temperatures could soar to dangerous levels in some areas, urging people to be aware of the risk of heatstroke.
Scorching heat gripped large parts of Japan from the northeastern Tohoku region to southwestern Kyushu on Monday, July 20, with temperatures rising to extreme levels especially in inland areas, the JMA said, as quoted by ANTARA.
The JMA forecast temperatures would rise again on Tuesday to similar levels in most areas of Japan, with daytime highs reaching 40 degrees Celsius in Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture, 39 degrees in Nagoya and Maebashi, and 38 degrees in Saitama and Kofu.
Heatstroke warnings have been issued for 42 of the country's 47 prefectures.
Meteorological officials have urged the public to use air conditioning (AC), consume sufficient water and salt to prevent the risk of heatstroke, and avoid prolonged outdoor activities.
