Iran Retaliates, Targeting Israel and US Bases Across Middle East Region

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that it has launched missiles and drones toward Israel following a joint attack by the United States and Israel on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

“In response to the aggression of the hostile and criminal enemy against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the first wave of extensive missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the occupied territories has begun," a senior Iranian official told Al Jazeera.

The senior official said all assets and interests of the United States and Israel in the Middle East have become legitimate targets.

“The United States and Israel have started an aggression and a war that will have wide and long-lasting repercussions. We were not surprised by the joint American-Israeli aggression and we have a complex response with no time limit," the official said, adding that any call for Iran to show restraint or surrender is "unacceptable and mere wishful thinking."

The Iranian military said that Iran launched a second wave of missiles toward Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated on social media that "additional barrage of missiles was launched toward Israel."

Israel's missile defense system was "identifying and intercepting the threats," said IDF as reported by CBS News.

Emergency sirens sounded intermittently across Israel on Saturday, and a state of emergency was announced by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.

Middle East Countries Report Blasts

The Qatari Defense Ministry stated that an Iranian missile was intercepted by the Patriot defense system.

Meanwhile, there have been explosions in Bahrain. Earlier, the Bahrain Interior Ministry issued an emergency alert and urged residents to seek shelter in the nearest safe place.

Located across the Persian Gulf from Iran, Qatar and Bahrain are US allies that host large contingents of American forces. Iran retaliated against the US attack last June on its nuclear site by launching a missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Bahrain is a major US ally in the Persian Gulf and is the permanent home to the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama.

The US Embassies in Qatar and Bahrain instructed their staff to take shelter on Saturday.

"We recommend all Americans do the same until further notice," the embassies said in a statement online, urging people to shelter in place at a safe location and "keep a low profile" amid the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.

Citing Al Jazeera, explosions have also been heard in UAE capital, Abu Dhabi. In Kuwait, sirens have been activated as explosions were heard.
