TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, expressed his hope for direct flights from Bali to Moscow and vice versa. He proposed this as an effort to build business ties between Indonesia and Russia.
"We encourage people-to-people collaboration, including direct flights from Moscow to Bali," said Airlangga after attending a Russia-Indonesia business forum at Raffles Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Airlangga also did not limit the possibility of direct flights to other destinations. He stated that direct flights could increase the number of tourists from each country. "We have five other tourist destinations that can also be improved through air travel," he said.
According to Airlangga, it is also important to open direct flights from Jakarta to Moscow and vice versa. He emphasized that this is important to support business between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and its partners.
The Golkar Party politician mentioned that he has also discussed the plan for direct flights with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Valentinovich Manturov. "We will discuss the details further," Airlangga said.
He did not provide details on when the plan for direct flights could be realized. He believes that the plan can be implemented quickly.
"When I went to Moscow in June 2024 as a follow-up to the president's directive at that time, we resolved it quickly, so we can certainly increase it quickly as well."
