TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian women's national team won the 2026 AFF Women's Cup again after a convincing 5-0 victory over Laos in the final at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Malaysia, on Wednesday. The defending champions dominated the first half, but nearly conceded a goal when goalkeeper Laila Masykuroh made a mistake in passing to Laos' number 10. Fortunately, Laila's mistake didn't result in a goal.
In the 20th minute, Indonesia had a great opportunity when Estella Loupatty's run from the right threatened the Laos defense. Estella passed to Sheva Imut, who was free, but her shot fell short, sending the ball to Felicia de Zeeuw, who then committed a foul while competing with a Laos player in front of the goal.
The Laos goalkeeper nearly made a fatal error in the 23rd minute when she failed to catch Gea Yumanda's shot. Fortunately, the number 1 was able to secure the ball well.
After repeated pressure, Garuda Pertiwi finally scored the goal they were waiting for in the 33rd minute. Felicia's corner kick, however, was not cleared properly by the Laos players, leading to a scramble, which saw Sydney Hopper tap in. The score was 1-0 to Indonesia.
Indonesia had a chance to increase their lead in the 39th minute through Sheva's shot. Unfortunately, her weak shot was easily saved by the Laos goalkeeper.
Entering the second half, Indonesia added two quick goals: a long-range shot from Isabelle Nottet in the 48th minute, followed by a close-range shot from Estella Loupatty in the 56th minute.
De Zeeuw became Indonesia's fourth scorer in the 68th minute when her beautiful shot from outside the penalty area ripped through the Laos net for the fourth time.
Indonesia's scoring spree was capped by Emily Nahon in the 84th minute, when she received the ball in the penalty area and calmly converted her chance to score her fifth goal.
This goal sealed Indonesia's victory in the 2026 AFF Women's Championship final. The Garuda Pertiwi team became champions for the second time in the AFF Women's Championship.
This is Indonesia's second championship in this tournament, following the 2024 edition. Back then, the team, also coached by Satoru Mochizuki, won after defeating Cambodia 3-1 with two goals from Reva and one from Hopper.
This title also secured Indonesia's participation in the 2027 AFF Women's Championship. Besides Indonesia, Laos, as runner-up, and Singapore, as the third-place team, also qualified for the tournament.
