TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund Danantara has tapped two Chinese companies to operate waste-to-energy facilities in Bekasi and Denpasar, Bali. The facility in Bekasi will be operated by Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd, while the Bali facility will be handled by Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd.

Danantara CIO Pandu Patria Sjahrir mentioned that the two companies are required to conduct technology transfer and establish a consortium with regional-owned and local companies.

"The selected operating partners are expected to maintain consistent performance, ensure compliance with all applicable provisions, and promote sustainable community participation," he said in a written statement on Friday, March 6, 2026.

The two Chinese companies were selected from a list of 24 candidates for the Environmentally Friendly Technology-Based Waste-to-Energy Business Entity (BUPP PSEL). The selection process, which began in 2025, initially involved 200 applicants.

Pandu stated that today's announcement is a crucial step towards high-quality management for the waste-to-energy facilities. Danantara is committed to promoting integrated waste management solutions that positively imapct the environment and the society at large.

"We will continue to work closely with partners, local governments, and all relevant stakeholders to bring about measurable progress in waste reduction and clean energy generation," he added.
