TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia, is the fifth largest contributor of peacekeeping forces in the world.

This was revealed by the Directorate General of Multilateral Affairs of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tri Tharyat, at an event commemorating Indonesia's 75 years of membership in the United Nations (UN) at Atma Jaya University, Jakarta, on Friday, October 24, 2025.

"As the fifth largest contributor of UN peacekeepers in the world, Indonesia is determined to play a more active role in creating a peaceful, just, and sustainable world," said Tri Tharyat.

He reiterated Indonesia's strong commitment to support global stability and strengthen multilateralism, including through active participation in UN peacekeeping missions.

"Indonesia has sent 2,700 peacekeeping personnel on eight UN missions to various parts of the world," said Tri Tharyat.

The eight missions are in Congo, Lebanon, Central Africa, South Sudan, and Western Sahara.

Indonesia implements a comprehensive approach in peacekeeping missions, focusing not only on security aspects but also on post-conflict community development, women's empowerment, and civilian protection.

This includes infrastructure and public facilities development, as well as health services, education, and social activities that strengthen the relationship between peacekeeping forces and local communities.

"Our peacekeepers represent Indonesia's commitment to humanity," said Major General Taufik Budi Santoso, Commander of the Indonesian Military Peacekeeping Center (PMPP), as quoted in the Kemlu.go.id portal.

"From Lebanon to Congo, they carry not only the red and white flag but also the values of peace, love, and solidarity."

The 2025 UN Day was a special moment, as it marked the 80th year of the UN's establishment and the 75th year of Indonesia's membership in the UN. Various events were held to commemorate this day.

Atma Jaya University Jakarta organized an event with the theme "Safeguarding the World, Weaving Harmony: Indonesia's Role in Peacekeeping Mission & The Role of Youth in Global Peace."

Since 1957, Indonesia has frequently deployed its troops to various parts of the world to carry out UN peacekeeping missions.

According to the Indopasifik Defense Forum, Indonesia has contributed more than 24,000 personnel from 1957 to the present, as a manifestation of Indonesia's active non-aligned foreign policy. In total, the Garuda Contingent has been sent on 30 missions over nearly seven decades.
