TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has again urged the UN to conduct a thorough investigation following the death of Private Rico Pramudia, a member of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), who was in intensive care following the incident at the end of March 2026.
In a statement from the Indonesian Government Communications Agency (Bakom) received in Jakarta on Saturday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela stated that the government pays the highest respect to Private Rico and is coordinating with UNIFIL to ensure the immediate and respectful repatriation of his body.
"Various medical measures have been attempted, but due to the severity of his injuries, his life could not be saved," Nabyl explained.
On the same occasion, Nabyl stated that Indonesia reiterated its strong condemnation of the Israeli attack that resulted in the death of the Indonesian peacekeeper.
The government emphasized that the safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel is non-negotiable. Therefore, the attack on these personnel constitutes a serious violation of international law and could be categorized as a war crime.
"Indonesia urges the UN to conduct a thorough, transparent, and accountable investigation to uncover the facts and ensure accountability for this incident," said Nabyl.
With the death of Private Rico, Indonesia has lost four Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers serving with UNIFIL in the past month.
Previously, Private Farizal Rhomadhond was declared dead in an artillery attack on March 29, 2026, the same incident that left Private Rico injured and requiring intensive care.
Then, on March 30, two TNI personnel, Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ikhwan, were declared dead when the troop convoy they were escorting was attacked.
In the attacks on March 29-30 and April 3, in addition to Private Rico, seven TNI soldiers were also injured.
Not only Indonesia, the escalation of tensions in Lebanon also caused France to lose two of its soldiers serving with UNIFIL in an attack on April 18.
