TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono joined the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates in strongly condemning Israel's escalation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif.

In a joint statement on social media platform X on Friday, the ministers said they specifically condemned the ongoing mass incursions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif compound by settlers led by extremist Israeli ministers.

They emphasized that these actions constitute a clear violation of international law, relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions, and the historical and legal status quo at the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministers also "deplore and condemn" the illegal and extreme acts of incitement, calls to mobilize incursions, and violence perpetrated by extremist Israeli ministers and groups.

According to the statement, these provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism and hinder efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace based on a two-state solution.

The ministers also stated that restricting access to the Old City of Jerusalem and its places of worship constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, and constitutes an unlawful attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo.

They affirmed that "Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites."

Furthermore, the ministers condemned the ongoing and systematic violations and actions carried out by Israel, as the Occupying Power, aimed at altering the historical, legal, and demographic character of occupied East Jerusalem and undermining the sanctity and status of the Islamic and Christian holy sites.

In the statement, the ministers reiterated the importance of maintaining the status quo while recognizing the unique role of the Hashemite Guardianship.

They also affirmed that the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, which amounts to 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.

Furthermore, Israel, as the Occupying Power, is urged to immediately lift all restrictions on access to the Old City of Jerusalem and cease all measures that hinder Muslim worshippers' access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

They also call on the international community to take a firm stance to urge Israel to cease its violations and unlawful practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to cease any actions that violate the sanctity of these holy sites.
