TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has capped the fee for citizenship renunciations at Rp5 million in a new regulation signed by President Prabowo Subianto on July 2, 2026. The Government Regulation Number 30 of 2026 on types and tariffs of non-tax state revenue was promulgated the same day by Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi.

Under the old provisions, the government capped the fee at Rp1 million.

The new tariff will come into effect in August 2026, since Article 10 of Government Regulation Number 30/2026 provided that it will "come into effect 30 days after the date of promulgation."

The new fee is listed in the appendix of the new regulation, under category "L. Citizenship Services," which stipulates the act of voluntarily giving up one's citizenship.

Director General of General Legal Administration (AHU) at the Ministry of Law, Widodo, confirmed the new Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) regulation, stating that it occurred due to changes in the ministry's nomenclature. It is known that since President Prabowo Subianto took office in October 2024, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has been divided into separate ministries.

Furthermore, Widodo stated that the tariff adjustment was also made in line with digitalization within the Ministry of Law. "There are indeed some tariff adjustments in accordance with the types of services provided in line with the digital transformation that we are implementing," said Widodo.

Widodo emphasized that the Rp5 million fee required for individuals wishing to renounce their Indonesian citizenship status is intended for service provision, which ultimately benefits the applicants.

Additionally, Widodo mentioned that the service provision not only involves the Ministry of Law but dozens of other ministries and agencies that ensure applicants are eligible. "Whether the are remaining obligations before being designated as foreign nationals and renouncing Indonesian citizenship," Widodo said.
