TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is still awaiting further discussions after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new 10 percent tariff on imports from all countries. Previously, Trump has imposed reciprocal tariffs on several countries, including Indonesia, which received a 19 percent tariff.
"In relation to the dynamics in the United States, especially related to the continuation of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade Indonesia-U.S., in principle, Indonesia will continue to monitor the evolving current conditions," said the Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Haryo Limanseto, through an official statement on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The announcement of the reduction of the tariff to 10 percent came just a day after the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between President Prabowo Subianto and President Trump. Both heads of state signed the ART document on February 19, 2026.
Haryo stated that the continuation of this ART depends on the decisions of both parties. This document is not yet in effect because it still needs to be ratified in both Indonesia and the United States.
"There will be further discussions between the two parties regarding all decisions made, and Indonesia will continue to prioritize national interests and needs in the future," said Haryo.
Quoting CBS News, Trump signed an agreement on Friday night that will set a temporary 10 percent tariff on most foreign goods imported into the U.S. This tariff rule change was made just hours after the Supreme Court overturned a series of global tariffs imposed by Trump earlier.
"It is my Great Honor to have just signed, from the Oval Office, a Global 10% Tariff on all Countries, which will be effective almost immediately," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
This move comes as Trump is making a strong effort to revive high global tariff regimes and various trade agreements, which are core parts of his economic agenda. Most of his previous tariffs relied on a law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which the Supreme Court ruled on Friday cannot be used to set tariffs.
This new tariff will take effect on Tuesday morning and remain in place temporarily, for up to 150 days. Some foreign goods are exempted from the 10 percent import tax, including certain food imports, critical minerals, electronic goods, and cars.
