House Member Says IKN Now Fit to House 15,000 Civil Servants

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, chair of House Commission II, said Nusantara Capital City (IKN) is currently capable of accommodating about 15 thousand government employees (ASN).

"IKN, in its capacity as the nation's capital, can now accommodate roughly 15 thousand civil servants," he said at the Senayan parliamentary complex, Jakarta on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

According to him, the East Kalimantan city already has free housing flats to faiclitite the workers, as well as offices for the government employees.

Therefore, Rifqinizamy urged President Prabowo Subianto to promptly utilize the existing facilities and begin relocating several ministries or state-owned enterprises (SOEs), from Jakarta to IKN.

Additionally, the NasDem Party politician said IKN has incurred approximately Rp130 trillion in state budget and investments worth Rp59 trillion.

The fate of IKN as Indonesia's new capital city remains uncertain, with a moratorium proposal recently floated by a NasDem politician.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), Rini Widyantini, said the ministry awaits President Prabowo's directives on civil servant transfer to IKN.

"We have asked government agencies to promptly prepare mapping," said Rini, referring to employees that will be moving offices to the new capital city.

Rini mentioned that the government cannot yet confirm the exact timing to relocate the civil servants due to changes in the ministry structure in Prabowo's Red and White Cabinet. "We have gathered the names of ministerial and agency staff from the previous cabinet, but some changes were made," she said.

She also stated that about 60 percent of the 38 ministries prioritized for transfer have undergone structural changes. These changes require the government to repeat the consolidation process of personnel data and re-analyze prospective civil servants set for relocation.

She also mentioned that the cabinet's organizational structure is complete, with 83 percent governed by new staff. The rest are still served by acting officials because the ministers are still finding the right people to fill the post. The government targets this process to be completed no later than December 2025.
