TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The final film of the late Kim Sae Ron, 'Guitar Man,' is set to premiere on May 30, 2025. This film comes about three months after the actress' passing.
Earlier, on Tuesday, May 20, South Korean time, a screening for the press and a media session were held at Lotte Cinema World Tower, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
According to Chosun Biz, Kim Sae Ron's family was invited to the event, but her mother could not attend due to health issues.
Kim Sae Ron's role in 'Guitar Man'
As reported by Allkpop, 'Guitar Man' is a music drama that tells a story of loss and hope. The film follows Ki Cheol, a gifted guitarist who faces a difficult life due to financial problems. He then joins a live club band called Volcano and meets Yoo Jin, played by Kim Sae Ron. Together with other band members, they seek light and hope amidst a harsh life.
The film is directed, produced, and starred by Lee Seon Jeong, who also plays the lead character, Ki Cheol. Seon Jeong mentioned that she had met Kim Sae Ron in person during the early casting process and realized that the actress was going through a difficult time.
Nevertheless, they proceeded with the release of the film at the end of May 2025.
Emotional editing process
Seon Jeong admitted that the process of editing the film felt very emotionally heavy. "In working on it, I had to keep seeing Sae Ron's face. That was the hardest part. I couldn't forget her. I saw her every day in the editing room. All the moments we went through together resurfaced. She even appeared in my dreams," he said.
He also added that the second hardest part was the reality that Kim Sae Ron should have attended the press conference together with the director. "I feel ashamed and regretful to be here alone. When watching the ending of the film, I cried," he said.
Memories from the filming process
In the same occasion, Seon Jeong also shared the story behind casting Kim Sae Ron to play the role of Yoo Jin. "When I finally met Sae Ron, she was very enthusiastic. She came prepared, had read the script in detail, and conveyed which parts she wanted to change. She asked when we could rehearse together. I was very glad," he said.
He also reminisced about the atmosphere on the filming location. According to the director, filming 'Guitar Man' might have been the most difficult period for Kim Sae Ron. Although she sometimes talked about her struggles during meals, the 2000-born actress mostly kept to herself in her car and rarely talked about her difficulties.
"As individuals, of course, we all went through tough times during the filming process. But amidst the tension, in terms of acting, she was the best person. I think this girl is destined to be an actress," she said.
The film 'Guitar Man' is scheduled to be screened in South Korean theaters on May 30.
