TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, will relocate residents affected by the landslide disaster in Pasir Langu Village, Cisarua, West Bandung Regency, on Saturday, January 24, 2026. To date, eight people have been declared dead, while 82 victims are still missing and are being searched for.
Dedi inspected the location of the incident that claimed dozens of lives. According to him, the surrounding area of the landslide location is filled with vegetable plants. With the hilly terrain, the presence of vegetable gardens makes it prone to landslides. Consequently, Dedi continued, it is very dangerous if people continue to reside in that location.
Dedi stated that the area where the landslide occurred should be returned to a forested area in the future and not used for planting crops or vegetables. "This area should be reforested. The residents here should be relocated due to the high potential for landslides," said Dedi in a written statement on Saturday.
Meanwhile, he said, survivors of the landslide are asked to rent houses for two months. The West Java Provincial Government is assisting Rp10 million per family for housing rent and daily living expenses.
The number one official in West Java said that families of the landslide victims will receive compensation of Rp25 million per family.
The West Java Provincial Government is still focusing on searching for victims buried in the landslide and restoring the environment at the landslide site. The search for victims is being carried out by a joint team including the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency, the Bandung Barat District Disaster Management Agency, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Search and Rescue Agency, and volunteers.
The Head of the West Bandung District Disaster Management Agency, Asep Sehabudin, said the landslide was triggered by heavy rain that had been pouring over the Cisarua area since Friday afternoon, January 23, 2025. The landslide occurred around 02.30 AM local time when the victims were fast asleep. "The residents' settlement is on the mountain cliffs," he said.
This landslide disaster has affected 334 families or about 113 individuals. Meanwhile, the number of affected houses is still being handled by field officers.
