TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google plans to bring Gemini AI to car dashboards. Patrick Brady, Vice President of Android for Cars, stated that the Android Auto system will introduce Google's original AI model.
The launch of Gemini for car cabins will be announced at Google I/O 2025, the annual developer conference scheduled for May 20-21. "The future of driving will be on showcase at Google I/O next week, " said Patrick in a statement on Google's blog on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Google launched Android Auto in 2015 to assist in vehicles' navigation, communication, and entertainment. The technology giant has partnered with a dozen automotive brands to launch the next generation of cars, equipped with embedded services promoted as Google-built-in.
Patrick said, over 250 million cars are currently supporting Android Auto. More than 50 car models have adopted the Google system. He emphasized that Gemini will make digital driving services smarter.
Gemini will be available for car systems that support Android Auto in a couple of months, "Including the new Lincoln Nautilus, Renault R5, and Honda Passport," said Patrick.
The Gemini Live feature can be commanded through natural language prompts. Drivers do not need to memorize specific phrases or press certain buttons on the dashboard screen. The home screen display on the car's screen is also designed to be simpler and more concise.
Users can ask Gemini to send messages in a different language, for example, from English to Spanish. This means that the AI system assists in translating and sending the message.
Like using Google Maps, Gemini can help you find the best places to eat along your route. Conversing with a Gemini can provide insight, such as when searching for eatery options based on reviews, or simply asking randomly.
"Gemini connects to Google Maps and your other apps from YouTube Music to Spotify to Calendar," said Patrick Brady.
In addition to Gemini, Google also installs various applications to fill drivers' leisure time inside the car. Digital car key access is also expanding to include several brands, such as Audi, Volvo, Polestar, and several others.
