Former President Jokowi Arrives at Palace for Geopolitical Talks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian president Joko Widodo arrived at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta at around 07:20 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in response to an invitation from President Prabowo Subianto.

Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, was greeted by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya upon arrival. He wore a batik shirt and a black peci cap, briefly waving and smiling at reporters. When asked about his condition, he said he was in good health.

Earlier in the evening, former vice presidents Jusuf Kalla and Ma'ruf Amin also arrived at the palace. Kalla came at around 07:00 PM, similarly dressed in batik and a peci.

Ma’ruf arrived less than 10 minutes later and was also welcomed by Prasetyo and Teddy. The three briefly exchanged greetings before entering the meeting venue.

Teddy said the gathering was aimed at discussing the current situation and strengthening communication among national figures. He noted that most invitees were present.

The meeting brought together not only former presidents and vice presidents, but also former foreign ministers and leaders of political parties represented in parliament.

“The President wants to build relationships and exchange views with these figures,” Teddy said at the palace on Tuesday night.

He did not elaborate on specific agenda items but confirmed that discussions would include geopolitical developments.

Global tensions have escalated following the outbreak of war between the United States and Israel against Iran. The conflict began with coordinated US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, which Iranian state media reported killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several members of his family. Iran has since launched retaliatory attacks.
