TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded US$8.5 billion in foreign capital inflows into the domestic financial market during the second quarter of 2026. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the influx of foreign portfolio investments was driven primarily by Indonesian Government Securities (SBN) and Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI).
Perry noted that capital inflows extended into the third quarter of 2026. "This persisted into the third quarter of 2026 through July 20, 2026, driven mainly by SBNs, which logged net inflows of US$0.1 billion," Perry said during a press conference following the board of governors meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
According to Perry, the central bank has executed various monetary policies to raise yields on domestic financial instruments and entice foreign capital into Indonesia. Previously, in the first quarter of 2026, the balance of payments registered a deficit of US$4.9 billion. Meanwhile, the current account posted a deficit of US$4 billion, equivalent to 1.1 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Bank Indonesia also reported foreign exchange reserves totaling US$145.6 billion at the end of June 2026. This level is sufficient to cover 5.5 months of imports or 5.4 months of imports plus government external debt servicing, well above the international adequacy benchmark of around three months.
"Going forward, Bank Indonesia forecasts that current account performance in 2026 will remain healthy in the range of 1.3 percent to 0.5 percent of GDP," Perry said. He added that BI and the government will continue strengthening policy synergy to bolster the external resilience of the national economy while reinforcing the stability of the rupiah exchange rate.
