TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The Indonesian Quarantine Agency through the Banten Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Office (Banten Quarantine) at the Soekarno Hatta Airport conducted an inspection and certification for 100 kilograms of Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) commodities that will be exported to India.
"A total of 100 kilograms worth Rp 50 million will be exported to India. This marks the first export to India," said the Head of Banten Quarantine, Duma Sari, in a written statement on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
According to her, this inaugural export serves as a positive initial step for business players in expanding the herbal commodity market abroad. "Banten Quarantine is committed to continuing to accompany and facilitate the export process to ensure the quality and safety of commodities from upstream to the exit door of Indonesia," said Duma.
Duma stated that in accordance with Law No. 21 of 2019 and Government Regulation No. 29 of 2023, the export of plants and plant products must be accompanied by a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC), and plant quarantine measures are also taken in order to fulfill the requirements of the destination country.
Furthermore, Duma explained that referring to Minister of Trade Regulation No. 21 of 2024 concerning Export Policies and Regulations (HS code 1211.90.17; 1211.90.18; and 1211.90.98), kratom can be exported in the form of powder and crushed leaves with a size of 30 mesh or approximately 600 microns, with regulatory instruments in the form of Registered Exporters (ET), Export Approval (PE), and Surveyor Report (LS).
"All commodities to be sent abroad must meet the technical and administrative requirements of the destination country and be ensured free from plant quarantine pests. After the inspection, 100 kilograms of kratom has been deemed fit for export," said Duma.
Duma ensured that Quarantine always prioritizes biosecurity and biosafety in the implementation of quarantine through a series of strategic steps, procedures, and control measures aimed at protecting animal, fish, plant, and environmental health from the threat of pests and diseases.
In addition, she mentioned that plant quarantine certification services for exporting kratom products can be provided after receiving the Import Permit or other official documents issued by the authorized authorities in the destination country, stating that kratom is not a prohibited commodity from entering their country, and the applicant has fulfilled the requirements of ET, PE, and LS.
