Fact Check: Is Indonesia's Free Vehicle Tax Amnesty 2026 Real?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 200 accounts on Facebook (account 1 [archive], account 2) and Instagram have posted information claiming that the government is launching a free vehicle tax amnesty program across Indonesia.

The posts contain two types of posters offering various benefits, including the elimination of tax arrears, license plate replacement, vehicle title transfers, and free driver's license (SIM) and vehicle registration (STNK) applications. The program is claimed to be valid throughout Indonesia from July 15 to August 27, 2026.

Another version states that the program will run until October 31, 2026.
Is it true that the government is launching a nationwide vehicle tax amnesty program in 2026 and making all vehicle administration services free?

FACT CHECK

Tempo's Fact Check team verified the content by comparing it with credible sources, tracing accounts that posted similar content, and analyzing the poster's visuals. The results showed that the information about the vehicle tax amnesty program being valid throughout Indonesia in 2026 is false.

Vehicle tax amnesty is indeed in effect in 10 provinces. However, most of these programs only waive late fines, not the principal outstanding motor vehicle tax.

Vehicle Tax Relief in 10 Provinces

According to klikpajak.id, the vehicle tax amnesty program is not a national policy, but rather a regional government policy. This is because motor vehicle tax is a type of provincial tax.

At least 10 provinces are implementing motor vehicle tax amnesty (PKB) programs: Jakarta, Central Java, Lampung, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Central Kalimantan, Bali, Maluku, and West Papua.

Quoted from Berita Satu, the Jakarta Provincial Government has only waived administrative penalties for motor vehicle tax until August 31, 2026. Residents must still pay the principal vehicle tax, but are exempt from interest due to late payments.

Vehicle tax fine waivers are also being offered by the provincial governments of Central Kalimantan, Maluku, and Bengkulu. In North Sumatra, the vehicle tax fine discount reaches 57 percent.

Central Java is offering a five percent reduction on the principal vehicle tax. Administrative penalties are adjusted based on the principal tax amount paid. This program will run until December 2026.

In Lampung, those delinquent in their taxes for one year or more only need to pay the current year's vehicle tax tax plus 50 percent of the principal arrears for the first year. The remaining arrears and fines are waived. Meanwhile, a partial waiver of the principal motor vehicle tax for a specific year is being implemented in Papua.

Of these policies, no regional government has waived the entire motor vehicle tax obligation. There are also no programs that provide free license plate replacements, vehicle title transfers, or SIM and STNK (SIM and STNK) registrations.

Fake Link to Vehicle Tax Amnesty Service

In addition to the accounts sharing the poster on Facebook, the @samsatnews account on Instagram is spreading a similar claim. The account includes a link to the website https://samsatdigital.obnew.click/, which claims to be the registration page for the vehicle tax amnesty service.

Tempo's verification results indicate that the website is not the official website of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri). The registration page asks visitors to enter various personal data, such as their ID card (KTP) and Telegram number, which are vulnerable to misuse. This type of data theft technique is called phishing.

Alfons Tanujaya, a digital security observer from Vaksincom, stated that the post was not related to a tax amnesty program. The perpetrators were simply luring citizens into handing over personal data, particularly demographic data.

This data can be used to take over Telegram and WhatsApp accounts and even access victims' bank accounts.

CONCLUSION

The claim that there is a "free vehicle tax amnesty 2026" program valid throughout Indonesia from July to October 2026 is false.

The vehicle tax amnesty program is not nationwide and falls under the authority of each regional government. Furthermore, there is no national policy that makes all vehicle administration services, including driver's license (SIM) and vehicle registration (STNK) free.
