TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has assured the public that fuel oil (BBM) supplies will remain stable during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjing said national BBM stocks are sufficient to meet demand for over 30 days.
“We hope those traveling for the Eid holiday do not doubt the availability of fuel, as the government has taken various precautionary measures,” Yuliot said at a press conference at the BPH Migas office in Jakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Yuliot noted that the government has anticipated the seasonal spike in energy demand during the exodus and return flow of Eid al-Fitr. He assured that the public need not worry about fuel availability.
Current national oil production stands at around 610,000 barrels per day, serving as a key supply source. To cover a shortfall of 1.6 million barrels, the government also relies on imports, including crude oil and finished BBM products, which are processed in domestic refineries to meet regional demand.
“The readiness of our refineries is continuously strengthened to ensure optimal production,” Yuliot said, citing facilities in Balikpapan, Balongan, Cilacap, Dumai, and Plaju.
All refineries are operating at maximum capacity to maintain a stable supply, while distribution networks deliver BBM from refineries to depots and then to public fuel stations (SPBUs) across Indonesia.
The distribution system, managed by state energy firm Pertamina, has been reinforced to guarantee smooth delivery. Depot storage capacities are maximized to ensure uninterrupted supply. “The distribution from the refineries to depots, and then to SPBUs, is fully secured,” Yuliot added.
Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri said the company has prepared additional measures to safeguard BBM stocks, including diversifying supply sources in response to potential disruptions such as the closure of the Hormuz Strait, which carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil.
“Our oil imports are not solely dependent on the Middle East. We also source from Africa, the Americas, and other regions,” Simon said, noting that these measures aim to strengthen Indonesia’s energy resilience amid global geopolitical tensions.
Pertamina is also ensuring that both BBM and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remain available during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The company operates approximately 7,885 SPBUs nationwide, of which around 2,704 are open 24 hours.
LPG distribution is supported by roughly 6,000 agents across the country, maintaining energy supply for households and businesses.
