BMKG Warns Pacific Cyclonic Cycle North of Papua to Bring Rain Across Indonesia

6 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a cyclonic cycle in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua could trigger increased growth of rain clouds in several Indonesian regions on Tuesday.

BMKG forecaster Yuyun, in a weather update broadcast from Jakarta on Tuesday, explained that the cyclonic cycle forms a convergence and confluence area that strengthens the national atmospheric dynamics.

"This combination of atmospheric dynamics increases the potential for rain cloud growth along cyclonic cycle, convergence, and confluence areas," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.

The observed convergence area extends from Jambi to Riau, Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan to North Kalimantan, the Flores Sea, North Maluku, and the Arafura Sea.

Meanwhile, confluence areas were identified in the waters west to north of Aceh, the waters south of Central Java to west of Bengkulu, the South China Sea, the Sulawesi Sea, and the Halmahera Sea.

For the western part of Indonesia, BMKG predicts the potential for moderate rain in Palembang and Tanjung Selor, while light rain is likely in Medan, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Bandung, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin.

Meanwhile, areas in eastern Indonesia that are likely to experience moderate rain include Bima and Mamuju, while light rain is predicted to occur in Manado and Jayawijaya.

The BMKG has urged the public and stakeholders in affected areas to increase their preparedness for potential moderate to heavy rainfall, as it could disrupt daily activities and trigger hydrometeorological disasters.
