TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Blue Origin is set to launch the NS-31 space tourism mission on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 9:30 AM Eastern Time (ET) or 8:30 PM WIB. The mission will take six women from diverse backgrounds to the edge of space aboard the New Shepard rocket from the launch site in West Texas, United States.
This time, the crew includes six women from entertainment, journalism, activism, and technology. The NS-31 crew includes civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, pop singer Katy Perry, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and journalist and philanthropist Lauren Sanchez. Snchez is also known as the partner of Blue Origin's founder, Jeff Bezos. Amanda Nguyen will be the first Vietnamese woman to fly to space.
New Shepard will take them just above the Kármán line, the international boundary of space located at an altitude of about 100 kilometers from Earth's surface. The flight will last 11 minutes, including four minutes in a weightless environment, allowing the crew to witness the panoramic views of outer space and Earth's curvature. The rocket and capsule will be autonomously controlled from the ground without a pilot onboard.
In its official blog, Blue Origin introduced the emblem of the NS-31 mission featuring the New Shepard rocket surrounded by six crew silhouettes and symbols representing each member.
"Scales symbolize Amanda Nguyen's commitment to advocating for civil rights, a star for Aisha Bowe represents her 'ambition for setting big goals,' and a microphone symbolizes Gayle King's 'commitment to sharing important stories with the world'," wrote Blue Origin, cited from Space.com, Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Katy Perry is represented by a fireworks symbol, Kerianne Flynn by a film reel, and Lauren Sanchez by the character 'Flynn the Fly' from her children's book, The Fly Who Flew to Space. The book tells the story of a little fly that overcomes obstacles to pursue its dream of going to space.
The NS-31 launch will be streamed live on Space.com when available. This will be Blue Origin's 11th manned tourism flight. Their last mission took place on February 25, 2025.
