TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Semarapura Festival 2025 in Klungkung, Bali, held from April 28 to May 1, is projected to draw as many as 20,000 local visitors, domestic tourists, and foreign tourists, with transactions expected to reach Rp10 billion. The transaction value is expected to rise from last year’s Rp4.7 billion.
The Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, hopes the festival—held at the Ida Dewa Agung Jambe Monument—can be the platform to strengthen cultural identity, boost tourism, and encourage community participation in preserving traditions and improving the local economy.
"Hopefully, this festival is not a mere entertaining event but a medium for education and the appreciation of Semarapura's cultural wealth," said the Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, in a press release in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Legacy of the Old City
The Semarapura Festival embraces the concept of an old city’s legacy. The festival will showcase grand performances, as well as art and traditions that the people of Semarapura preserve. Music performances, exhibitions for MSMEs' crafts, and culinary arts will also grace the festival.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office, Ni Made Sulistiawati, added that the event involves about 2,100 artists and event supporters. She also mentioned that the event serves as a tourism promotional tool to introduce the cultural arts and tourist destinations of the Bali region.
"Additionally, it serves as a place for local artists to create and for micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) creative economy players," she said.
Environmentally Friendly Principles
To enhance sustainability, the cultural festival applies environmentally friendly principles by reducing the use of single-use plastic and promoting the use of local materials.
The Semarapura Festival was opened by the Deputy Assistant for Regional Events of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, Reza Fahlevi, together with the Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, and the Deputy Regent of Klungkung, Tjokorda Gede Surya, on Monday, April 28, 2025. This year, the festival carries the theme Nayaka Maetala Udayana, which signifies the revival of the homeland under the hands of a wise leader.
