TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Many parties have highlighted the transfer of the corruption case of former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, from the Indonesian police to the Attorney General's Office (AGO). This transfer has raised doubts that prosecutors are incapable of taking firm action against the former high-ranking Attorney General.
Junior Attorney General for Supervision, Rudi Margono, who leads Team 9 handling Febrie's case, dismissed this assumption. According to him, the transfer of the case actually provides legal certainty. "Because investigators at the Attorney General's Office also serve as a pratut institution," Rudi said at the Attorney General's Office on Friday, July 24, 2026.
Rudi explained that if a case is handled by a pratut institution within the Attorney General's Office, which also has investigative authority, case files do not need to be shuttled between investigators and public prosecutors. "Well, that's the legal reason why the handling of the case by investigators at Jampidsus is very argumentative and legally acceptable," he said.
Less than three weeks after the police transferred the case to the Attorney General's Office, prosecutors named Febrie Adriansyah a suspect in alleged money laundering (TPPU). The money laundering (TPPU) case relates to the discovery of 74 kilograms of gold and hundreds of billions of rupiah in cash at Febrie's home in Sentul. On the same day, Friday, July 24, 2026, prosecutors also detained Febrie at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Detention Center.
Previously, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) had named Febrie a suspect in alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) in the PT Asabri case handled by the Attorney General's Office. In addition to Febrie, the police also named advocate Don Ritto as a money laundering suspect.
Febrie Adriansyah claims to be a victim of criminalization. According to him, investigators do not yet have sufficient evidence to detain him. "I have discussed with the examining prosecutor that the evidence presented still needs to be further investigated and confirmed, so I believe this is not sufficient to warrant detention. This has never happened at the Round Building," Febrie said after undergoing questioning at the Attorney General's Office Main Building on Friday, July 24, 2026.
