TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 3,010,993 air passengers are expected to fill Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season, which runs from March 13-30, 2026. "This prediction represents a 2.20 percent increase compared to last year's Eid al-Fitr holiday period," said Soekarno-Hatta International Airport General Manager Heru Karyadi on Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026.
Regarding aircraft movements during this year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming, Heru stated that 19,891 flights are predicted to fill the skies of Cengkareng, a 3.43 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Heru predicted that the peak flow of Eid al-Fitr homecoming traffic at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in 2026 will occur on March 18, 2026, with a projected passenger count of 187,202 people on 1,193 domestic and international flights. The peak return flow will occur on March 28, 2026, with 198,387 passengers on 1,221 flights.
Heru said that for this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has also received requests for 735 additional flights, consisting of 376 domestic flights and 370 international flights.
To anticipate passenger congestion during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Branch has made comprehensive preparations. These preparations range from operational aspects, infrastructure readiness, passenger service facilities, to personnel readiness to anticipate the potential increase in passenger and aircraft movements during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
The following are the detailed preparation steps:
- The Eid al-Fitr Transportation Command Post will operate from March 13 to March 30, 2026. There will be three command posts: the Integrated Command Post at Terminal 1 B and Service Command Posts at Terminals I, 2, and 3.
- A total of 7,832 personnel will be deployed, with approximately 2,197 personnel on duty in each operational shift to ensure smooth flight operations.
- All facilities will be ensured in optimal condition, including three runways, 175 parking stands, and 115 aviobridges ready to support smooth aircraft movement during the Eid al-Fitr Transportation period.
- Passenger service facilities will also be strengthened by providing baggage trolleys and cabin trolleys, as well as optimizing inter-terminal transportation services such as the Skytrain and shuttle buses to support passenger mobility within the airport area.
- Electrical tests will be conducted through generator on-load tests to ensure the backup electrical system can function optimally in the event of a disruption to the main power supply. *Random vehicle inspections are being conducted in the terminal area to ensure all operational activities are carried out safely and under control.
- Land transportation services are being strengthened by providing various modes of transportation, such as intermodal buses, AJAP shuttles, online taxis, and regular taxis. This includes expanding the fleet to anticipate potential increases in passenger numbers during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period.
- As a mitigation measure against potential emergencies and extreme weather, airport management has prepared several contingency plans, including increasing the capacity of the drainage system, installing real-time water level monitoring devices, and normalizing water channels at several points throughout the airport area.
