TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States and Qatar have signed a "historic" economic deal worth US$1.2 trillion during President Donald Trump's visit to the country.

On Wednesday, the White House said in a statement, the historic deal reached will drive innovation and prosperity for future generations, boost U.S. manufacturing and technology leadership, and put the U.S. on the path to a new golden era, as reported by Antara.

The agreement includes, among other things, a deal for Qatar Airways to purchase hundreds of Boeing aircraft was announced previously. The White House referred to this deal as "orders for wide-body and the largest 787 aircraft" from Boeing.

According to the White House, the deal is worth US$96 billion and includes the purchase of 210 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft with GE Aerospace engines.

However, Trump had previously said the signed deal was for purchasing 160 aircraft worth over US$200 billion. The White House has not explained this difference.

Furthermore, both countries have signed a technology development cooperation with the American firm Parsons, meanwhile, the Qatari firm Al-Rabban Capital has committed to investing US$1 billion for developing "the most advanced quantum technology and workforce development in the U.S."

In the defense sector, the White House stated that Raytheon has signed a deal worth US$1 billion to supply Qatar with FS-LIDS anti-drone installations, making it the first international customer for the system.

Separately, General Atomics has agreed to sell its MQ-9B SkyGuardian reconnaissance drone system worth US$2 billion or around Rp33.07 trillion.

A memorandum of understanding signed by the U.S. and Qatar also outlines potential cooperation worth US$38 billion in "investment, including support for operational work at Al-Udeid Air Base and future air defense and maritime security capabilities."

The military facility located southeast of Doha is the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East.

According to the White House, the new deals and instruments signed aim to promote growth in bilateral commercial cooperation between the U.S. and Qatar and create thousands of jobs with decent wages.

The White House also stated that the bilateral agreements could "open up new trade and investment opportunities for both countries in the coming decades and the future."
