TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump will announce the beginning of the second phase of the Gaza peace process. According to Axios, citing several U.S. officials on Thursday, this includes forming a new government before Christmas.
The report mentioned that in the coming weeks, the Trump administration is preparing to announce the details of the Governance Board and outline a broader peace plan for Gaza.
As outlined in Trump's 20-point peace plan, the second phase includes Israel's withdrawal from additional areas in Gaza, deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF), and the formation of a new governmental structure, including the "Board of Peace" led by Trump.
This governmental structure will be led by the "Board of Peace", which consists of approximately ten leaders from Arab and Western countries and is led by Trump, according to the report.
The report added that under the "Board of Peace", an international executive council will be formed, consisting of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump's special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, and several senior officials from the countries represented in the "Board of Peace".
Meanwhile, a technocratic Palestinian government will function under the executive council and consist of 12-15 individuals with management and business expertise, none of whom are affiliated with Hamas, Fatah, or any other Palestinian party or faction, the report said.
Currently, the U.S., Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey are engaged in discussions with Hamas to reach an agreement for the militant Palestinian group to relinquish control over Gaza and begin to disarm.
Trump's Achievements
The fragile ceasefire in Gaza is the biggest foreign policy achievement of Trump's second term so far, and his administration wants to move on to the second phase to avoid slipping back into war.
Although the ceasefire has not fully ended, Israel has violated the ceasefire by killing 366 Palestinian civilians, including dozens of children. This is based on Israel's claim that Hamas has killed some of its soldiers since the ceasefire began on October 11.
One key element of the first phase—the release of all hostages, both living and deceased, by Hamas—is almost complete.
The body of one deceased hostage has not been returned, and an Israeli delegation met with Qatari and Egyptian mediators on Thursday to discuss how to repatriate them.
Under pressure from the U.S., Israel has agreed to open the Rafah crossing and allow Palestinians to leave Gaza for Egypt, an ethnic cleansing effort. However, there are no discussions regarding the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Israel, Egypt, and the U.S. are discussing a security arrangement that would allow Palestinians to return through the opposite direction.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with President Trump in the U.S. before the end of the month to discuss the next phase of the Gaza agreement. Trump told Netanyahu in a phone call on Monday that he expects Netanyahu to be a "better partner" in Gaza.
