TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tottenham Hotspur secured their third Europa League title after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the final at the Mames Stadium in Bilbao on Thursday early morning WIB (Western Indonesian Time), May 22, 2025. This victory comes 41 years after their last title in this competition.
Tottenham maintained their lead after Brennan Johnson's goal towards the end of the first half. Despite relentless attacks from Manchester United, and being pinned in their own area, Ange Postecoglou's team managed to keep a clean sheet and emerged as the winners.
Captain Son Heung-min, who came on as a substitute after more than an hour of play, received the trophy on behalf of his team. Their success in the Europa League salvaged their season, following their struggles in the English Premier League.
By winning the Europa League title, Tottenham will compete in the Champions League next season despite a projected finish in the bottom half of the Premier League standings at the end of the current season.
This third Europa League triumph puts Tottenham on par with Liverpool, who won the competition three times in 1973, 1976, and 2001. Similarly, two Italian teams, Inter Milan and Juventus, as well as the Spanish club Atletico Madrid, also share the same record.
Meanwhile, the team with the most Europa League titles is the Spanish club Sevilla, who have been champions seven times. They last won the title in 2023.
