Three Israeli Soldiers Imprisoned for Refusing Gaza Deployment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Israeli military, or IDF, said it has dismissed and jailed three of its soldiers for refusing to return to combat in the Gaza Strip. The three soldiers, from the 931st Infantry Brigade Nahal Battalion, were imprisoned for seven to 12 days in a military prison.

According to the public broadcasting agency KAN, as reported by Anadolu, the dismissed soldiers cited a deep internal crisis as their reason for refusing to return to combat in Gaza.

This is not the first time Israeli soldiers have refused to participate in combat in Gaza. According to military data, 895 Israeli soldiers have been reported killed and 6,134 injured since the beginning of the war in Gaza. The military faces accusations of concealing larger losses.

Israeli soldiers, who have rejected international calls for a ceasefire, have launched brutal attacks in Gaza since October 7, 2023. Israel's military aggression has killed nearly 60,000 Palestinian citizens, mostly women and children. Relentless bombings have destroyed the enclave and caused food shortages.

Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Both are accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case in the International Court for its war in the enclave.

Israeli attacks have caused many Gaza residents to die of starvation. Israel continues to bombard Gaza. Health officials at the Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa hospitals in central Gaza reported that Israeli gunfire killed at least 17 people and injured 50 who were waiting for aid trucks on Sunday.

As reported by Al Arabiya, dozens of Gaza residents have died from malnutrition in recent weeks, according to the Gaza health ministry. The ministry reported six new deaths in the last 24 hours due to malnutrition, bringing the total deaths from malnutrition and starvation to 133, including 87 children.

Yesterday, Israel announced it would halt military operations for 10 hours a day in certain parts of Gaza. Israel also allowed a new aid corridor. Military activities will be suspended from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (07:00-17:00 GMT) until further notice in al-Mawasi, a designated humanitarian area along the coast, in central Deir al-Balah, and the city of Gaza in the north.
