TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Abdulaziz Alwasil, emphasized the importance of closely monitoring developments in the Gulf region, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which he described as a crucial lifeline for the global economy.
Addressing a UN Security Council meeting on the safety and protection of maritime waterways on Monday, April 27, Alwasil stated that any threat to the freedom of navigation carries a direct impact on the stability of energy markets, global supply chains, and international economic security.
As reported by Antara, Alwasil underscored that the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a shared responsibility that demands adherence to international law, bolstered international cooperation to preserve maritime freedom, and full compliance with Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
He further reaffirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's support for international and regional efforts aimed at de-escalation and ending the conflict, including the ongoing mediation initiative led by Pakistan.
Furthermore, Alwasil urged the UN Security Council to explicitly condemn the Iranian attacks that the Kingdom has faced since the onset of the crisis.
