TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar condemns Israel's repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. During the opening session of the Shura Council on Tuesday, October 21, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stated that Qatar reaffirms its condemnation of all Israeli violations and attacks on Palestine.
"Particularly the transformation of the Gaza Strip an area unfit for human life (and) the continued violation of the ceasefire," he said, as quoted from TRT World. As of Tuesday, the Gaza Health Ministry recorded at least 100 fatalities and 303 injuries due to Israeli attacks since the ceasefire took effect on October 10.
According to a report by Anadolu, Sheikh Tamim also highlighted the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Judaization efforts of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem.
Qatar Calls Israel's Attack State Terrorism
Sheikh Tamim then mentioned that Israel has violated international law by attacking a country that acts as a mediator for the ceasefire. He referred to the Israeli air strike in Doha on September 9, targeting a Hamas delegation in negotiations.
"Israel has violated all international laws and norms governing relations between states by attacking a country that acts as a mediator and by its attempt to kill delegation members," he said. He added that Qatar views this attack as an act of state terrorism.
International Community's Pressure
Sheikh Tamim called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for what he described as genocide in Gaza and urged protection for civilians. He emphasized the importance of establishing international mechanisms to ensure that Israel complies with the law.
He also assessed that Israel's violations of the ceasefire not only disrupt the mediation process but also prolong the suffering of the Palestinian people. The ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10 was previously based on a 20-point agreement proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The first phase includes the exchange of prisoners, namely the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan includes rebuilding Gaza and establishing a new governance mechanism that excludes Hamas.
