TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia vs Vietnam U-23 national team duel will take place in the final match of the AFF U-23 Cup 2025. This match will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, at 8:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Times) and will be broadcast live by Indosiar and Vidio.
Vietnam will enter the final as the two-time defending champion in 2022 and 2023. The team, nicknamed the Golden Star Warriors, is ambitious to make history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive titles in this event.
The team, led by Kim Sang-sik, has performed impressively throughout the tournament. They managed to turn the tables to eliminate the Philippines with a 2-1 score in the semi-finals. Fast-paced play with midfield dominance and high fighting spirit are Vietnam's main strengths.
Players like Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Xuan Bac have been the backbone in the attacking line. Both players often create opportunities from set-pieces as well as open play schemes.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian U-23 national team reached the final after a tough struggle. Led by Gerald Vanenburg, the team achieved a dramatic victory over Thailand in the semi-finals through a penalty shootout after drawing 1-1 for 120 minutes.
Indonesia displayed solid performance in the group stage with a solid defensive record. Indonesia only conceded one goal in the semi-final during normal time and became the Group A winner without conceding a goal. Leading up to the final, Indonesia may have to cope with the absence of several key players due to injuries, forcing coach Gerald Vanenburg to make rotations and prepare different strategies.
Possession of the ball and midfield solidity pose challenges. Moreover, Indonesia may have to play without two key midfielders, Toni Firmansyah and Arkhan Fikri. The midfield duel becomes the main focal point.
Coach's Comments
Indonesian U-23 national team coach Gerald Vanenburg aims for a victory within 90 minutes, although ready to face the scenario of a penalty shootout like the match against Thailand. "It depends on the players' mentality and luck. We saw the exceptional mentality of the kids in the semifinals and we were lucky," he said.
He ensured that the players would fully focus on implementing the game strategy instead of facing pressure to win the title. "I don't pay too much attention to that, I just focus on the team, giving the best. If there are those who don't like me, what matters is that my family likes me," said the Dutch coach.
Vietnam's U-23 coach, Kim Sang Sik, is also confident in defeating Indonesia in the final of the AFF U-23 Cup 2025. He evaluates that the preparation has been going well and the players' performance has been improving throughout the tournament. "We believe we can win the match against Indonesia," he said.
Kim has analyzed Indonesia's matches during the tournament to find strategies to overcome the aggressiveness of the Garuda squad. "We are fighting to reach the final. So does Indonesia. Tomorrow, there will be many supporters supporting Indonesia. We are preparing the players to be ready to face all the pressure," he said.

Prediction
Vietnam is ambitious to win their third consecutive title. The Golden Star Warriors may dominate ball possession, while Indonesia relies on fast transitions and set-piece schemes. Playing in front of their own audience is an advantage to win the match, but high pressure can backfire for Garuda Muda. Indonesia can win the match as long as they can convert opportunities into goals. If they fail, the match may have to end in a penalty shootout.
