Prabowo Frequently Raises Two-State Solution in Global Forums, Says Foreign Minister

1 day ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto's statement that he will open diplomatic relations with Israel in recognition of Palestine's independence is part of the two-state solution.

Many countries often mention this solution in various international forums. According to Sugiono, however, this idea is not new.

"It's a two-state solution. The essence is to recognize both countries. But this has also been mentioned in various international forums. It's not something new," said Sugiono at Pendopo Pencak Silat, East Jakarta, on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

He stated that the Indonesian government has been supporting the two-state solution. Sugiono admitted to mentioning this at various international forums. "I also mentioned it at the ICJ (International Court of Justice) in early May 2025," he said.

According to Sugiono, this is the process that must be gone through to liberate Palestine. Sugiono also couldn't express Indonesia's stance if Israel were to recognize Palestine's independence. "The two-state solution must come first. We'll see first," he said.

President Prabowo Subianto previously stated that Indonesia would recognize Israel if it acknowledged Palestine as a sovereign state. Prabowo made this statement during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on May 28, 2025.

In front of Macron, Prabowo also praised France for supporting Palestinian independence. "France will also continue to press for an immediate cessation of armed activities in Gaza," said the Head of State.
