TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received an honor medal from the Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, General Bryan Fenton, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, August 4, 2025. General Bryan Fenton met with President Prabowo in his office to strengthen defense relations between Indonesia and the United States.
According to the official statement of the Presidential Secretariat's Press, Media, and Information Bureau, the meeting took place in the President's office. Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
During the meeting, General Fenton presented the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) honor medal to Prabowo. This award recognizes President Prabowo's efforts to strengthen bilateral defense relations between the two countries.
Fenton stated that under President Prabowo's visionary leadership, the bilateral relations between the two countries have improved, strengthening the global fight against emerging threats while also promoting stability and peace in the region.
"President Prabowo Subianto's exceptional dedication, leadership, and steadfast commitment have produced invaluable partnerships with Special Operations Forces and reflect great appreciation to him, the Republic of Indonesia, Special Operations Forces worldwide, and the U.S. Special Operations Command," said Fenton.
The visit of the senior U.S. military leaders came after Indonesia reached a new agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump on import tariffs. Through the Truth Social platform, Trump explained that they had agreed to reduce the reciprocal tariff on Indonesian imports to 19 percent from the original 32 percent.
However, this tariff reduction is followed by consequences such as the elimination of tariffs and non-tariff barriers for American exports to Indonesia. In addition, Indonesia also committed to purchasing American products, including $15 billion worth of energy, $4.5 billion worth of agricultural products, and 50 Boeing aircraft, mostly of the 777 type.
