TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga reported that 1,963,152 vehicles departed from Greater Jakarta, which comprises Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period this year. This total represents traffic flow on toll roads leaving Greater Jakarta over an 11-day period, from Friday, March 21, to Eid al-Fitr on Monday, March 31, 2025.
This figure is 399,450 vehicles higher than the typical daily traffic volume. "The total traffic volume leaving the Jabodetabek region showed a 25.5 percent increase compared to the normal traffic volume of 1,563,702 vehicles," said Lisye Octaviana, Corporate Communication & Community Development Group Head of PT Jasa Marga, in a written statement released on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
When compared to the 2024 Eid al-Fitr, the number of vehicles departing Jabodetabek this year increased by 0.5 percent. During the same period last year, 1,953,891 vehicles left the capital and its surrounding areas.
Lisye indicated that the three primary destinations for vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta during this year's Eid were: eastbound (Trans Java and Bandung) with 1,095,489 vehicles, representing 55.8 percent of the total; westbound (Merak) with 491,987 vehicles, or 25.1 percent; and southbound (Puncak) with 375,676 vehicles, or 19.1 percent.
However, Lisye noted that the traffic volume heading west (Merak) and south (Puncak) remained relatively consistent with normal daily traffic. The most substantial increase was observed in the eastbound traffic flow towards Trans Java and Bandung.
According to her, the traffic flow towards the eastern region, particularly along the Trans Java route, experienced a significant surge on Eid al-Fitr, Monday, March 31, 2025. "The Cikampek Utama Toll Gate recorded the highest traffic surge, with a total of 73,695 vehicles, representing a 184.3 percent increase from the normal traffic volume of 25,919 vehicles," she explained.
Based on the Hijri calendar as determined by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Eid al-Fitr holiday falls on March 31 and April 1, 2025. The extended holiday period, which includes four days of collective leave combined with a weekend, is followed by additional leave until April 7, 2025.
