TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Israeli military has killed at least 97 Palestinians and injured 230 others since the ceasefire began on October 10, and has violated the ceasefire agreement 80 times. This includes 21 recorded violations on Sunday, as stated by the Gaza Government Media Office, as reported by TRT World.

Israel's wave of airstrikes is claimed to be in response to ceasefire violations by Hamas, which the group denies.

The Gaza Government Media Office stated that "Israeli occupation committed 80 documented violations since the declaration of the ceasefire, in flagrant breach of international humanitarian law."

These violations include direct shootings of civilians, mass shootings, deliberate targeting, the formation of "fire belts," and the arrest of civilians.

According to the statement, Israeli forces have used military vehicles, tanks positioned at the edge of settlements, electronic tethers equipped with long-range targeting systems, planes, and quadcopter drones to launch attacks.

"These violations were recorded in all governorates of Gaza without exception, confirming that the occupation has not adhered to the ceasefire and continues its policy of killing and terror against our people," the statement reads.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Israeli military unilaterally stated that the ceasefire in Gaza was reinstated after a series of airstrikes that killed 26 people.

The airstrikes were claimed to be in response to the deaths of two Israeli soldiers in a Hamas attack. This incident occurred during the ceasefire mediated by the United States on October 10.

According to ABC News, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claim that Hamas carried out several attacks on Israeli forces inside Gaza, including anti-tank rocket fire and sniper attacks.

"Earlier today, terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire toward IDF troops operating to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the Rafah area, in southern Gaza, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement," the IDF wrote in X.

Israel then launched airstrikes and artillery fire in Rafah, claiming to have destroyed several Hamas military facilities.

Israeli airstrikes killed at least 26 people, including a woman and a child, on Sunday. Gaza health authorities stated that one of the attacks hit a former school in Nuseirat, which was being used as a shelter for displaced people.

Tensions subsequently escalated in several areas. Residents in Nuseirat rushed to buy essential supplies in the main market, while Palestinian families in Khan Younis fled south after the attacks hit their area.

Israel and Hamas Accuse Each Other

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to respond forcefully to the attacks.

"Following a ceasefire violation by Hamas, Prime Minister Netanyahu held consultations with the defence minister and senior security officials and instructed to take strong action against terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip," the prime minister's office stated.

However, Hamas stated that they remained committed to the ceasefire agreement, claiming to be unaware of any clashes in Rafah and having no connections with other groups in the area since March.

According to a report by CNA, Israel will resume aid supplies to Gaza starting Monday, October 20, 2025, after halting the supplies due to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas.

The airstrikes serve as a reminder of Israel's ceasefire violations in Lebanon that occurred at the end of 2024, although the ceasefire there still largely holds.

The decision was made following pressure from the United States government.

Without discussing Israel's ceasefire violations in Gaza, U.S. Vice President JD Vance assessed that the security situation in Gaza is still unstable.

He claimed that there are approximately 40 Hamas cells that have not been fully disarmed.

"Some of those cells will probably honour the ceasefire. Many of those cells, as we saw some evidence of today, will not," he said.

He added that efforts to ensure the disarmament of Hamas require the involvement of Gulf Arab countries to enforce law and order in the field.
