TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources assures that the country's energy reserves remain secure as fellow ASEAN bloc member Philippines declared an energy crisis.
“As for Indonesia, the national energy supply is secure and under control at the moment, both for fuel and LPG products," ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia told Antara on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
According to Anggia, the Indonesian government is closely observing the developments in the Middle East war and working to prepare tangible measures to ensure the reliability of oil supplies.
“This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to manage energy optimally and adaptively in response to global dynamics,” said Anggia.
One of such measures is energy source diversification and overseeing domestic oil supply and distribution. “As well as wiser and more efficient energy consumption management," said Anggia.
The ministry spokesperson urges citizens not to worry about the looming energy crisis, as these measures are proactive and preventive in nature. “Economic activities and energy demands remain the government's top priority,” said Anggia.
On Tuesday, the Philippine government became the first country to officially declare a national state of emergency due to disruptions in the global energy supply chain following the Middle East war.
According to a GMA News report, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed an executive order formally declaring a state of emergency and activating a national response to restore energy supply stability and prevent the economic impact of rising fuel prices.
The Philippines imports nearly 26 percent of its national energy supplies from the Middle East, with the total budget spent in 2024 reaching US$16 billion.
Tensions in the Middle East region have escalated since Israel and the U.S. launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, which has reportedly killed around 1,340 people so far, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran subsequently retaliated against the military aggression by launching drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting U.S. military assets.
Tehran also took control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil supplies, through which the majority of energy supplies for Asian nations must pass.
