TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Huawei launched the MateBook Fold, a foldable laptop, in China on Monday, May 19, 2025. Unlike its predecessor that used Microsoft Windows, this new device runs on HarmonyOS 5. At first glance, it looks like an oversized foldable smartphone.
The MateBook Fold is priced at 23,999 Yuan (approximately Rp 54.5 million) for the version with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB of internal storage, according to Huawei’s official distribution site, cited on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Pre-orders began at launch, and as of now, there have been 58,840 reservations. Huawei also offers a variant with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB storage for 26,999 Yuan (around Rp 61.3 million). The laptop is available in cloud blue, sky white, and forged shadow black.
Huawei MateBook Fold Specifications
When unfolded, the laptop measures 382.5 mm in length and 288.5 mm when closed. It is 7.6 mm thick when open and 14.9 mm thick when closed. Weighing 1.16 kilograms, it features an 18-inch screen when open and 13 inches when folded.
The display uses a flexible OLED panel with a 92% screen-to-body ratio and a 4:3 aspect ratio. It supports up to 1,600 nits brightness and the P3 color gamut.
The MateBook Fold is powered by a 74.69 Wh polymer lithium battery and supports 140 W fast charging via USB type-C. The front camera is 8 MP, and the laptop includes a standard USB port, two USB-C ports, a fingerprint power button, a volume button, and six microphones.
Users can type on a digital keyboard displayed on one half of the screen, effectively turning the device into a tablet. For those who prefer a physical keyboard, Huawei offers the detachable Huawei Xingyue portable keyboard.
Why Huawei Chose HarmonyOS
Huawei developed HarmonyOS to reduce reliance on Microsoft Windows. The system is now installed across a range of Huawei products, including smartwatches, phones, tablets, and laptops.
HarmonyOS for laptops was officially introduced on May 8, 2025. It enables seamless integration across devices within the HarmonyOS ecosystem and supports convenient cloud-based data sharing.
