TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has launched the Web Guide feature in their browser to organize search results with artificial intelligence (AI). Google Search Group Product Manager Austin Wu said this feature groups specific website links according to user queries.
"Web Guide uses a custom version of Gemini to better understand both a search query and content on the web," he said through Google's blog on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Austin said this feature creates the ability to display websites that users may have never come across. This feature is similar to AI Mode, but Web Guide uses query fan-out techniques that simultaneously produce multiple searches to identify the most relevant results.
An example demonstration is entering a query such as "how to solo travel in Japan" or a more specific query, like "My family is spread across multiple time zones. What are the best tools for staying connected and maintaining close relationships despite the distance?"
After that, in the browser, a number of relevant websites will be provided to answer the question, along with descriptions and brief summaries. Web Guide is similar to browsing in the Gemini app, but the applied mode still resembles open and generally inclined searching.
Austin said this feature is still in the experimental phase and is part of Google's Search Labs project. "To start, we’ll make Web Guide accessible to opted-in users from the Web tab on Search, where you can easily switch back to standard Web tab results any time," he said.
This feature is still in the development stage, and there is a possibility that not all users globally can try it. Over time, Google will also display search results organized by AI in other search sections, including summarizing all search results in a separate tab.
