Food Aid Trucks Begin Entering Gaza from Egypt

7 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trucks carrying aid began moving towards Gaza from Egypt on Sunday, July 27, 2025. According to a report from Al Qahera News TV quoted from Al Arabiya, Israel has started to ease the blockade after months of pressure from other countries and international organizations over the growing famine in the Palestinian territory.

On Sunday, Israel announced a military activity ceasefire in three designated areas in Gaza. The ceasefire will be in place every day in Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City, from 10:00 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening until further notice, the military said.

Safe routes have also been permanently set from 06:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night. Israel also stated that they have started air-dropping aid to Gaza on Saturday and are taking other steps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The Israeli military stated that a "humanitarian corridor" will be established to secure United Nations convoys delivering aid to the people of Gaza. Humanitarian ceasefires will be implemented in densely populated areas.

Dozens of trucks carrying tons of humanitarian aid are moving towards the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Gaza from the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the military will implement humanitarian ceasefires in civilian centers and humanitarian corridors on Sunday morning. No further details were provided.

As reported by NDTV, the Israeli military stated that the delivery was done in coordination with international aid organizations. The aid dropped includes seven pallets containing flour, sugar, and canned food. "IDF emphasizes that there is no famine in the Gaza Strip, this is a fake campaign promoted by Hamas," stated the Israeli military.

Warning of Widespread Famine

Israel previously imposed a total blockade on Gaza on March 2, after ceasefire talks stalled. Aid access was briefly reopened at the end of May, but with new restrictions.

International aid organizations stated that mass famine has now hit 2.2 million Gaza residents. Over 100 humanitarian organizations warned last Wednesday that widespread famine is occurring throughout the region.

The Gaza Health Ministry stated that since the war began almost two years ago, 127 people have died from malnutrition, including 85 children. In recent weeks alone, dozens of Gaza residents have reportedly died from malnutrition.

Aid Ship Handala Intercepted

However, on the same day, Israeli forces intercepted the Handala, an aid ship owned by the Freedom Flotilla activist group sailing from Italy to Gaza. In a post on X, the Israeli Foreign Ministry claimed that the ship was attempting to illegally enter the maritime zone of Gaza and has been taken to the Israeli coast. All passengers were reported to be in safe condition.

Live footage from the Freedom Flotilla's Handala showed the moment when Israeli soldiers boarded the ship. Three live broadcasts were then cut off a few minutes later. Meanwhile, the Israeli military also announced that they have connected the power lines to desalination facilities estimated to meet the daily water needs of around 900,000 Gaza residents.
