TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The drivers' association of online motorcycle taxis, Garda Indonesia, along with students and civil society, are planning to hold demonstrations at two locations, in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building and in the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, today.
The Chief of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner General Susatyo Purnomo Condro, stated that thousands of combined personnel have been deployed in the two demonstration areas. He urged the demonstrators to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and not be provoked.
"There are 6,118 combined personnel deployed at the House of Representatives and the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area," said Susatyo in a brief message on Wednesday.
Regarding traffic engineering, he said the police have not yet decided whether it is needed or not. Susatyo explained that traffic engineering is carried out situationally by considering the mass escalation in the field.
"In principle, we hope that the demonstration can take place in an orderly, safe, and not disrupt the activities of the rest of the community," he said.
As for the online motorcycle taxi demonstration, they will bring seven demands, including issues related to the draft of the Online Transportation Law and the investigation of the deaths of online motorcycle taxi drivers during demonstrations in Jakarta and Makassar.
The General Chair of Garda Indonesia, Raden Igun Wicaksono, mentioned that there will be nearly five thousand demonstrators at the House of Representatives.
"The wave of resistance will increasingly become a strong force that should not be underestimated by the government," said Igun in a written statement on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The following are the 7 demands brought by the online motorcycle taxi drivers' association to today's demonstration:
1. The Online Transportation Bill to be included in the National Legislative Program
2. The 10 percent discount from the application cannot be negotiated anymore
3. Regulations on the rates for delivering goods and food
4. An investigative audit of the 5 percent deduction of the rights of motorcycle taxi drivers taken by the application
5. Eliminate all application programs that harm motorcycle taxi drivers such as queue jumping, slot allocation, multi-orders, paid membership, and others
6. Replace the Minister of Transportation who is pro-people
7. The Chief of Police to thoroughly investigate the tragedy on August 28, 2025, which caused the deaths of two victims, motorcycle taxi drivers Affan Kurniawan in Jakarta and Rusdamdiyansah in Makassar.
