TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recorded 15 Indonesian citizens scattered around the Thailand-Cambodia border amid the armed conflict between the two countries. Rolliansyah Soemirat, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the number of 15 Indonesian citizens was obtained from self-reporting data by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The 15 Indonesian citizens are scattered in the border areas, especially in the Thai territory," said Rolliansyah in a written statement on Sunday, July 27, 2025. However, there are currently no Indonesian citizens on the Cambodian side of the border." Diplomat Roy mentioned that the affected areas on the Thai side border include Trat, Sa Kaeo, and Ubon Ratchathani. The Cambodian side includes the provinces of Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear.
Roy stated that the Indonesian representatives in Cambodia and Thailand will periodically update the data on Indonesian citizens. He mentioned that the Indonesian Embassy had been in communication with Indonesian citizens in those areas.
"So far, there is no information regarding affected Indonesian citizens. Through its representatives in Cambodia and Thailand, the Indonesian government continues to carefully monitor developments along the Thailand-Cambodia border," said Roy.
Previously, Deputy Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus, revealed that the conditions of Indonesian citizens in Thailand and Cambodia are safe.
"So far, they are safe and there are no problems because our deputies continue to monitor. We have a deputy for foreign political affairs who continues to monitor," said Lodewijk at the Main Building of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Jakarta, on July 25, 2025.
Lodewijk explained that the conflict between the two ASEAN member countries is taking place in the forest and border areas. Therefore, the areas are far from residential areas.
"That's the border of the forest, I said It's in the interior, not in the city, it's the border. It's the same when we look at other countries, their borders are in the forest," said Lodewijk.
Lodewijk also advocated for diplomatic measures to resolve the Thailand-Cambodia conflict. He hoped that this approach could be an option to reduce the conflict between the two Southeast Asian countries.
