TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky extended Eid al-Fitr wishes while expressing concern over the war raging in the Persian Gulf region during Ramadan and expressing solidarity with the countries affected by the attacks.
"Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ukraine and around the world," Zelensky wrote on X, as quoted from Antara on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Zelensky expressed concern that during the month of Ramadan, a war with major global implications is raging in the Middle East and that "appalling strikes by the Iranian regime, carried out with drones and missiles, are hitting peaceful cities."
"For Ukrainians, who also endure such challenges every day, it is crucial that terror does not prevail anywhere in the world and that life is well-defended in every region," he said.
To that end, the Ukrainian president said, his country will "immediately offered our security partnership to the countries facing these attacks, and our teams are already on the ground working to strengthen the protection of life."
Zelensky explained that the tension caused by such fighting is also felt by the Muslim community in Ukraine, which is currently celebrating Eid al-Fitr amidst the war with Russia, which has entered its fifth year.
He also highlighted the hardships experienced by the Tatar community in the predominantly Muslim region of Crimea, as they have been "forced to celebrate this holiday under occupation" since Russia entered the Crimean Peninsula in 2014.
The Ukrainian President also expressed his hope that all Muslim families will always be filled with peace, strength, and prosperity.
"May this holiday bring blessings and strengthen faith and cooperation among those who defend life. May peace come closer to everyone!" Zelensky wrote.
